Determinism is the philosophical perspective that says that all – especially prospective – events, including moral choices, are completely determined by previously existing causes. Determinism is usually understood as the contrast of free will because it implies that humans cannot act otherwise than they do. The theory holds that the universe is fully rational because complete knowledge of any given situation assures that accurate knowledge of its future is also possible.
